Jessica Speckhard is the Second Daughter. An artist working and showing in New York and Washington D.C., she launched the jewelry line Second Daughter in 2014. Her art-world background feeds into her collections with a pulse that shouts 'of-the-moment' and incorporates a vast sea of influences—from animal life to architecture. Second Daughter jewelry unapologetically vacillates between minimalism and maximalism, concerned only with adorning the modern person with jewelry as extraordinary as he or she is.
Second Daughter jewelry has been featured in such publications as Elle Magazine, Numero (Paris), Cole Magazine,VVV Magazine, and A Creative DC. Her jewelry has been seen on such celebrities as Samira Wiley of Orange is the New Black and Abbey Lee Kershaw.
She works in her studio outside of Washington D.C. where she researches, designs, carves, sets stones, and does all of the things that go into creating a Second Daughter piece.
Jessica studied jewelry design and brand development at Parsons the New School for Design, The Corcoran and a number of other prestigious institutions. She has a bachelor's in fine arts and has shown her large scale collage and photography artwork as well as her jewelry in galleries and shows worldwide.
She continues to constantly expand her jewelry making skills at industry workshops, and enjoys experimenting with new materials every season.
She lives with her seven year old daughter. In her free time she enjoys traveling, book clubbing and visiting the Smithsonian museums for inspiration.
